With 20 major titles, Roger Federer trails both Rafael Nadal (22) and Novak Djokovic (24) as the most decorated Grand Slam singles champion ever. But if you ask a true tennis connoisseur who is the greatest men’s player of all time, Roger usually gets the nod. Subjectively, in a gentleman’s sport that values style and etiquette so highly, Federer has embodied the pure ideology of a true tennis professional better than anyone. Before his first major victory in 2003 until well beyond his last in 2018, the smooth stroke, crisp movement, and precision of Fed’s game, both on and off the court, put the Swiss legend in a class by himself.
Offered here is a Roger Federer match worn and autographed Nike polo shirt from the 2004 Tennis Masters Cup. Played on hard court in Houston, TX, from November 13-21, the 35th edition of this important year-end ATP event featured the top 8 ranked players in the world [healthy enough to compete]. Federer was the #1 seed and went on to win the tournament after beating third-ranked Lleyton Hewitt of Australia in the final. A conclusive photo-match could not be made to a particular match, but previous provenance links this shirt to Fed’s Nov. 18 round-robin victory over #5 seed Carlos Moya of Spain. Roger’s 2004 season was one of the most dominant in tennis history. He finished with a 74-6 record and maintained the world #1 ranking for the entire year, winning three of the four majors (all but the French Open).
The white Nike player-exclusive collared shirt has green accents on the sides and back with a quarter zip design on the front – ideal for Fed’s classy look on the court. Tagged within the inner collar, it comes in size Large with wash instructions inside the left front tail. Roger has autographed the front in bold black marker. The shirt exhibits excellent wear throughout with an aroma of perspiration still present. Unfortunately, many tennis shirts like this are nondescript and incredibly difficult to photo-match. Comes with COAs from the Australian Memorabilia Association (AMA-33766) and Sports Online, an Australian dealer based in New South Wales. Additional COA from Monte Carlo Sports. All confirm this shirt was worn in the Moya match. Full LOA from PSA/DNA for the autograph.
