This torch was used in the flame relay for the 2004 Athens Olympics. An olive leaf served as the inspiration for the first Olympic torch relay that traveled to all five continents (thanks to air transportation) carrying the message of peace for the Athens Summer Games of 2004. The torch's ergonomic curved design gives the look of the continuation of the flame from the torchbearer's hand. Greek designer Andreas Varotsos intended to express "Pan Metron Ariston" (Greek for 'all things in moderation'). Weighing 700 grams (1 lb. 9 oz.) and measuring 68 cm (2 feet 3 inches) the silver-colored magnesium and olive wood shaft appear in their natural colors. A blue olive leaf emblem with "AOHNA 2004" and the five Olympic rings adorn the shaft. The flame area shows signs of being lit. Presents in NM-MT condition and includes an expertly crafted wood wall mount with a carved wooden figural hand support.
