Addendum: This is a 14K gold ring, not 10K as previously indicated. Also, the recipient, First Base coach Joe Lefebvre, is notable to mention.

This lovely 14-karat gold coach's ring commemorates the San Francisco Giants winning the National League pennant, a memorable season in which the club came up just short of its first World Series triumph since moving to the west coast in 1958. Led by another monster offensive campaign from Barry Bonds, the Giants finished 95-66 during the regular season, 2-1/2 games behind the NL Division champion Arizona D-Backs, yet they earned the NL Wild Card spot and were able to advance through the NL playoffs by beating the Braves in the NLDS and the Cardinals in the NLCS. In the Fall Classic, they faced the Anaheim Angels and were head 3-2 in the series with a 5-0 lead in the 7th inning of Game 6 when the wheels fell off. It was just not meant to be for Dusty Baker's boys, as the Halos rallied to win that game 6-5 and then took Game 7 at home to clinch it.

Made by Masters of Design in 14-karat yellow gold, this ring was presented to Joseph Lefebvre, the Giants' first base coach during the 2002 season. Unrelated to Jim Lefebvre, Joe was a utility outfielder in the majors from 1980-86 for the Yankees, Padres and Phillies, before going into scouting and coaching. His ring comes complete with its original presentation box, preserving the full commemorative package as it was originally distributed.

A large "SF" made up of several small round-cut real diamonds sits atop a dark onyx stone surrounded by "NATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONS" and "GIANTS" flanked by two larger genuine diamonds. One shank has "LEFEBVRE" and a raised image of Pacific Bell Park (later AT&T and now Oracle) with the Bay Bridge in the background. The other shank has a large banner reading "2002 CHAMPS NATIONAL LEAGUE GIANTS" and smaller banners below listing every other Giants NL pennant from 1904 through 1989. Stamped Inside the band  is the "14K" hallmark. The size 11 ring exhibits moderate wear and weighs 53.5 grams. Atop the mahogany wooden presentation box (NM-MT) is a golden nameplate reading "2002 NATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONS GIANTS Joseph Lefebvre".

As the MLB franchise with the most regular season wins ever (11,664 and counting), Giants championship and pennant rings are highly coveted by franchise collectors looking to document the full arc of the team's modern championship-era from this heartbreaking near-miss in 2002 through the Bochy/Buster dynasty in the early 2010's that included three World Series titles in a five-year span.
