NFL Hall of Fame linebacker Junior Seau of the San Diego Chargers was one of the league's hardest hitting tacklers in history. In 2000 he was once again a force to be reckoned with as he started all 16 regular-season games for the Bolts and added 3.5 sacks and two interceptions along the way. For his efforts he was rewarded with his 11th of 12 trips to the coveted Pro Bowl in Hawaii. The 2001 Pro Bowl was played on Sunday February 4 at Aloha Stadium before a crowd of 50301. The final score was AFC 38 - NFC 17.
This lot features Seau's game-worn 2001 red-and-white AFC Pro Bowl jersey from that game played Feb. 4 2001. Across the front of the jersey it reads "ALL-STAR" in capital white tackle twill letters sewn directly onto the jersey with Seau's trademark uniform number "55" just below it in red tackle twill numbers outlined in black and white. The official "NFL" embroidered shield is sewn onto the bottom of the v-neck area of the jersey and the official "PRO BOWL Hawaii 2001 NFL All-STAR GAME" embroidered patch is sewn onto the left chest area. Seau's uniform number "55" repeats on both sleeves in white tackle twill outlined in black positioned just below an embroidered Chargers helmet. His last name "SEAU" appears in white tackle twill sewn directly onto a red nameplate that's been sewn across the back of the shoulders. His number "55" repeats itself on the reverse in larger numbers also in red tackle twill outlined in black and white. The bottom of the jersey has been torn all the way around the waist as some of the players preferred playing with their jerseys in that fashion.
