Before the 2001 season Derek Jeter signed a contract to stay with theYankees that made him the second-highest paid player in the game. Inthe 2001 season Jeter earned every penny of it hitting .311 with 21home runs and 27 stolen bases. As good as that was Jeter really earnedhis paycheck with a single play in the ALDS against Oakland. With JeremyGiambi at first base and the Yanks up by a single run Terrance Longhit a long fly ball into the right field corner. As Giambi trudgedaround bases to score what looked to be the tying run Yankee rightfielder Shane Spencer unleashed a wild throw that missed his cut offman. As the ball skimmed down the first base line Jeter seemingly cameout of nowhere retrieved the ball and flipped it to catcher JorgePosada who slapped the tag on a surprised Giambi. This unbelievable playwent down in baseball history as simply “The Flip”.
Presented here is a pair of Jeter's game-used cleats from the 2001 season which saw the Yankeesmake it to their fourth consecutive World Series. The Nike 'Turn 2' Jeter signature models show outstanding evidence of game use with plenty of soiling on the suede exterior and dirt remnants on the cleats. "The Captain" has signedthe left cleat in 9/10 silver paint pen over the Jumpman logo silhouette on the side. Jeter’s No.“2” is embroidered on the back of each cleat and “JETER” is printed onthe tongue of each below the laces. They come in Jeter's size 11.5 and are appropriate tagged by Nike on the interior with player coding and an "11-30-00" manufacturing date.
Includes COA from Steiner Sports along with a Steiner LOA signed by Derek Jeter himself attesting to these being worn during the2001 season. MLB Auth. #AR055391 for 6/15/2001 signing session. Autograph pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
