Brent Mayne retired in 2004 after 15 productive seasons catching in the Majors. He was drafted and developed by Kansas City and spent more than half his career wearing the Royal blue. Known for his defense Mayne finished with a .993 career fielding percentage and .263 career batting average not-too-shabby for a guy who spent around 100 games a year squatting behind the dish. His best season was in 2000 with Colorado when he hit .301 with career highs in HR (6) and RBI (64). The Rockies traded Mayne to the Royals mid-season in 2001 and we have his complete uniform and catcher's gear ensemble from head to toe in this unique lot. A rare chance to look feel and smell like a Big League catcher. Here's what's included:
1) Majestic size 48 Colorado Rockies Brent Mayne #8 black alternate jersey with heavy wear most notably severe pilling in the right shoulder. "ROCKIES' stamped on front back numbers and letters all come in purple and white. Sweat stains throughout.
2) Rawlings size 35 white pants with purple pinstripes stained heavily by dirt and sweat.
3) Hockey-style black and purple 'CR' logo catcher's mask with Velcro chin/neck pad. All buckles and straps are original and intact. Mayne was one of the first catcher's to use a hockey-style mask something that is now standard practice.
4) Wilson black padded chest protector with right shoulder guard. All buckles and straps are original and intact.
5) Pair of Wilson shin guards with extended guards and pads for knees and feet. All buckles and straps are original and intact.
6) Pair of Nike 'Ken Griffey Jr.' model black shoes with metal cleats. Show heavy wear inside and out.7) Pair of Wilson black sweat bands with Mayne's #8 in purple stitching. Good game-used stench.
8) Pair of black socks marked with '8' in black on white knitted section. Good game-used stench.
Includes a Letter of Provenance from The Newport Sports Museum.
