New York Yankees great and former team captain Derek Jeter won five World Series titles with the Bronx Bombers and finished his outstanding career with a final overall batting average of .310 and the most hits in Yankees team history (3465). This lot features Jeters 2000 New York Yankees gray road jersey from the season in which he not only earned MVP honors at the Mid-Summer Classic but was also named MVP of the Subway Series! The size 48 Russell Athletic MLB Authentic Collection tagging is positioned in the left front tail next to a pair of strip tags reading 100% POLYESTER and 2 EXTRA LENGTH. Sewn in next to the bottom of the Russell Athletic tag is a white tag reading 2000 to indicate the season. The front of the jersey is adorned with three-inch letters spelling NEW YORK in semi-circular fashion in navy-blue-on-white tackle twill. On the left sleeve is a sewn-on black armband in tribute to Hall of Famer pitcher Bob Lemon who passed away in January of 2000. A standout hurler for the Cleveland Indians Lemon managed the Yankees for four seasons (1978-79 and 1981-82). On the back of the jersey is Jeters trademark number 2 in navy-blue-on-white tackle twill. The numeral measures eight inches tall and 5.5 wide. On the back of the collar is the tri-color MLB logo. The jersey shows light overall use and to our knowledge is the only 2000 game worn Jeter jersey authenticated by MEARS. This is a great piece of game-worn baseball memorabilia from one of the most consistent players in history.
