Hall of Fame point guard Isiah Thomas wore these offered shorts during the 1985-86 season with the Pistons. Thomas averaged a double-double for the third of four straight years with averages of 20.9 points and 10.8 assists to earn his third straight First Team All-NBA selection. It would take three more seasons before his "Bad Boys" of Detroit broke through and won back-to-back NBA titles.
The mid-80's short shorts come in Pistons road blue with red piping along the sides and waist with a single white stripe through the middle. Properly tagged by Medalist Sand-Knit on the inner waistband, they exhibit solid wear and come in Isiah's size 32. His uniform number "11" is penned in blue presumably by the team's equipment manager. What makes these trunks stand out is what they are missing on the front right thigh -- the embroidered NBA logo. This made the photo-matching process much easier as it narrowed down the search significantly.
Real Game Used has authenticated the shorts with an apparent match to an undated 1986 image from a road game against the Washington Bullets. Based on the opponents in the image (Manute Bol and Leon Wood), we have concluded the date to be February 6, 1986. Thomas scored 16 points with eight assists and eight rebounds in a 111-109 overtime victory. Includes LOA from RGU with the photo-matching evidence. Additional authentication by MEARS.
