1999 was a career milestone season for Mr. Padre. On August 5th, Gwynn recorded his 2,999th career hit in the same game Mark McGwire hit his 500th home run. The next day, August 6th, Gwynn got his 3,000th hit, ironically six years to the day he recorded his 2,000th! The Padres legend would hit .338 for the year and retire two years later with a .338 average and a ticket to Cooperstown. Gwynn’s home pinstripe jersey has “PADRES” across the chest in navy, white, and orange tackle twill. A size 50 Rawlings label is sewn in the lower left front tail with a white hang tag affixed. The right sleeve has the Rawlings patch, while the left has the custom San Diego Padres 30th Anniversary Patch. The back of the jersey has “GWYNN” in navy tackle twill above his number “19” in navy, white, and orange tackle twill. The jersey shows light game use with some puckering to the tackle twill graphics and several loose threads throughout. Colors remain bright, and the jersey displays wonderfully.
