Here then is a blazing white jersey from "The Season" that giddy 1998 campaign when Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa hooked up to shatter most existing home run records ... for a while anyway. This jersey was worn by McGwire in that historic season when he ran the major league record to a previously unimaginable 70 which was startling of course but not completely out of character for the man who hit home runs at the highest consistency in Major League Baseball history. This wonderful game-worn home jersey from McGwire's amazing 1998 season is further bolstered by a pair of brisk black Sharpie McGwire autographs and his "70" inscription: one on the front above the redbird on the left shoulder and the other on the back directly below the nameplate. The shirt comes with the appropriate Rawlings tagging appears on the inside of the left-front tail along with a Size 52 and "Set 1 1998" flag tags. The elegant chenille stitching on the Cardinals script and "Bat and Birds" logo is superb with barely a whisper of any fraying of any of the stitching a pronouncement that applies equally well to the No. 25 red tackle twill on black and "McGwire" in the same fashion on a white nameplate. The historic shirt shows light game use and is otherwise problem-free and without visible alteration of any description. It is simply a museum-worthy artifact from an historic milestone in 20th century postwar MLB history.
