In 1997 Colorado Rockies right fielder Larry Walker led the league in home runs with 49. He also batted in a career best 130 runs batted an astounding .366 and was named the N.L. MVP in a near unanimous vote. Walker secured 22 first-place votes (92%) while runner-up Mike Piazza and third-place finisher Jeff Bagwell got three apiece. This lot features Walker’s 1997 Colorado Rockies game worn home uniform.
The white button-down polyester jersey with purple pinstripes includes proper Russell Athletic manufacturer’s tagging on the left front tail below which resides a sewn-on white tag reading “100% POLYESTER.” The jersey which shows moderate use reads “ROCKIES” arched across the front in silver-and-black tackle twill outlined in white. The team’s official Colorado Rockies embroidered black purple silver and white patch adorns the left sleeve while a special “Jackie Robinson 50th 1947-1997 Breaking Barriers” embroidered patch adorns the right to acknowledge Robinson’s momentous ’47 season in which he broke baseball’s color barrier. The back of the jersey reads “WALKER” arched across the shoulders in black tackle twill outlined in gray followed by his number “33” just below it in similar tackle twill fashion in eight-inch-tall numbers. Serious fraying of the numbers and letters is evident on the front and back.
The accompanying purple-pinstriped white pants show good wear and include proper Russell Athletic tagging on the inside rear waistband with a separate sewn-on faded white ID tag reading: “33-WALKER-36-38-33-95.” An adjoining flag tag reads “100% POLYESTER.” Both buttons on the rear pockets remain intact but one of the two snaps on the zip-up fly is missing.
Includes LOA from the Colorado Rockies.
