In 1997 Baltimore Orioles Hall of Fame shortstop/third baseman Cal Ripken Jr. played in (what else?) another 162 consecutive games to keep his MLB record of consecutive games played growing. Two seasons removed from breaking Lou Gehrigs previous longstanding mark of 2131 consecutive games played Ripken collected 166 hits and knocked in 84 runs. This lot features Ripkens game-used Orioles road uniform (jersey and pants) from his 17th season of consistency on the field. The Russell Athletic size 48 MLB Authentic Diamond Collection jersey has the Jackie Robinson 50th Anniversary patch sewn on the right sleeve and a special Baltimore 200 patch on the left sleeve celebrating the anniversary of when the Town of Baltimore nearby Jonestown and an area known as Fells Point were incorporated as the City of Baltimore. The gray polyester jersey is lettered with "Orioles" across the front in script and features Ripkens number "8" on both the left breast and reverse. His last name Ripken is arched above the number on the reverse. All letters and numerals are applied in black on orange tackle twill. Fraying of the numbers is evident on both he front and back. A year tag reading 1997 is sewn onto the front left tail of the jersey just below the manufacturers tagging. The size 38 waist Russell Athletic pants include the proper Russell Athletic and MLB Authentic Diamond Collection manufacturers tags on the inside rear of the waistband just to the left of the sewn-in strip tag reading: 8 Ripken 37/40 33 97 indicating uniform number player name waist size inseam and season respectively. Pants show only minor wear. A great uniform from one of baseballs all-time greatest players.
