Few players in NBA history have come into the game with the kind of hype and exaggerated expectations that came with Shaquille O'Neal just over 20 years ago and few players have ever handled such pressure with the kind of wild success and artistic flair that he has shown over that time. O'Neal was drafted by the Orlando Magic with the first overall pick in the 1992 NBA Draft. He quickly became one of the top centers in the league winning Rookie of the Year in 199293 and later leading his team to the 1995 NBA Finals. After four years with the Magic O'Neal signed as a free agent with the Los Angeles Lakers. They won three consecutive championships in 2000 2001 and 2002. The individual accolades include the 19992000 MVP award the 199293 NBA Rookie of the Year award 15 All-Star game selections three All-Star Game MVP awards three Finals MVP awards two scoring titles 14 All-NBA team selections and three NBA All-Defensive Team selections. He ranks sixth all-time in points scored fifth in field goals 13th in rebounds and seventh in blocks and third all-time in field goal percentage. He awaits only the passage of time for the official blessing of HOF immortality.
This handsome 1997-98 shirt has the Nike Size 56 manufacturer's label appearing on the front tail with black Lakers and NBA Authentic flag tags attached on each side. the "Length +4" flag tag appears at the bottom of the Nike label. "Lakers 34" is affixed to chest in purple and white tackle twill and in the same configuration for his name on number on the back. The wear of the jersey is light.
Includes a Letter of Provenance from The Newport Sports Museum.
