Presented here is a striking original Olympic torch from the 1996 Summer Games in Atlanta. Measuring 31 1/2" in length the 1996 torch is the tallest ever used at a Summer Olympics. The Centennial torch consists of 22 reeds - one of each of the Olympic Games with a center handle of Georgia hardwood. The names of each host city are etched in a gold band near the torch base; another band above the wood shows the Atlanta Games logo and Quilt of Leaves. Its diameter varies from 2 1/4 inches at the bottom to 3 1/2 inches at the top. The reeds are aluminum; the hardwood is either pecan or hickory with two gold-plated brass bands. It presents in outstanding condition with light use from a leg of the torch relay that culminated in Muhammad Ali's magical moment lighting the Olympic flame in Olympic Stadium.
