In 1994, Michael Jordan retired from basketball to pursue his “first love” – baseball. Jordan was signed to a Chicago White Sox minor league contract to see if he had what it took to be a 2-sport star. The 31-year-old batted .202 for Birmingham in 1994, and though he did not make it to the majors, he did appear in a single exhibition game with the White Sox. The game, played on April 7, 1994, was against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. Jordan played right field and went 2 for 5. He thrilled the 37,825 Chicago fans when he tied the game with a double to left field and posted 2 RBIs. Despite the tremendous excitement surrounding the game between Chicago’s two rival ballclubs, featuring the greatest NBA player of the era, there are precious few Type 1 photos of the event. This Type 1 captures Jordan in his White Sox uniform, taking batting practice. This Type 1 photo has been printed to its edges. The reverse has the Kodak Paper watermark and digital code stamps.
