In 1994, Michael Jordan retired from basketball to pursue his “first love” – baseball. Jordan was signed to a Chicago White Sox minor league contract to see if he had what it took to be a two-sport star. The 31-year-old batted .202 for the Birmingham Barons (AA) in 1994, and though he did not make it to the majors, he did appear in a single exhibition game with the White Sox on April 7th against the crosstown Cubbies at Wrigley Field. Jordan played right field and went 2-for-5. He thrilled the 37,825 Chicago fans when he tied the game with a double to left field and drove in two runs.
Despite the excitement surrounding the game between Chicago’s two rival ballclubs, with NBA's GOAT and the city's local legend in the spotlight, only a precious few Type 1 photos have surfaced from the event. This 8x10 action shot captures Jordan in his White Sox uniform taking batting practice. The reverse has the Kodak Paper watermark and digital code stamps. Encapsulated as Type 1 by PSA/DNA.
