For Baltimore Orioles fans come vintage garments from two of the anchors of the Orioles vaunted pitching staff in the 1990's. A collegiate star at Louisiana State University in both basketball and baseball Ben McDonald led the 1988 US Olympic Team to a gold medal winning complete games against host South Korea and Puerto Rico. During his three-year college career at LSU McDonald twice helped his team reach the College World Series. That summer the Baltimore Orioles made McDonald the first overall selection in the June draft. McDonald joined the Orioles' starting rotation in 1990 and in his first major league start on July 21 he threw a complete game shutout against the Chicago White Sox. Injuries including shoulder and rotator cuff problems conspired to shorten what had been a promising career. McDonald ended his career with a 7870 record 894 strikeouts and a 3.91 ERA. He wore this grey road jersey in 1993 probably his finest season with a 13-13 log and career bests in ERA (3.39) and strikeouts (171). The road grey button-down garment has "Orioles" across the chest in orange-on-black tackle twill and McDonald's No. 19 on the front left and back in like fashion. The NOB appears in black-on-orange tackle twill on a grey nameplate. The sleeve openings bear black-and-orange stripe elastic accents. A Russell Athletic Size 48 manufacturer's tag appears on the left front tail with three flag tags: one with "100 % Polyester" and another with "-1 Sleeve" and a third tag with 1-inch Extra Length. Adjacent strip tag has "93-1." Shirt shows game use with some fraying of the black stitching around numbers and name. McDonald jersey comes with Orioles team LOA. Gregg Olson was a flame-throwing reliever for 8 different teams in a 14-year career most notably with the Orioles from 1988-93.In 1989 Olson became the first reliever to win the American League Rookie of the Year Award. Olson also set an American League rookie record with 27 saves and had a 5-2 mark with a 1.69 ERA and 90 strikeouts in 85 innings. In a 14-year career Olson compiled 217 saves with a 40-39 record 588 strikeouts and a 3.46 ERA in 672 innings pitched. This blazing orange alternate jersey from 1992 is a button-down garment with "Orioles" across the chest in black-on-white tackle twill and Olson's No. 30 on the front left and back in like fashion. The NOB appears in black-on-white tackle twill on an orange nameplate. The sleeve openings bear black-and-orange stripe elastic accents. The "Russell Athletic" Size 44 manufacturer's tag appears on the left front tail with with a "100 % Polyester" flag tag attached and adjacent "92-1" strip tag. Shirt shows game use with almost no fraying of the black stitching around numbers and name.
