Mark Brooks began his PGA career in 1983 and when all was said and done he won 7 tournaments on tour including a lone major at the 1996 PGA Championship. Offered here is the elegant 10-karat gold medal that Brooks was awarded for winning the 1991 Greater Milwaukee Open played Aug. 29–Sept. 1 at the same site (Brown Deer Park G.C.) where Tiger Woods would make his pro debut five years later.
Winner's gold medals rarely surface in the hobby – the longevity and financial security of professional golf careers playing a significant role in that – so when they do it presents a tremendous opportunity for golf and precious medal collectors alike. This winner's gold medal measures 1.5 inches in diameter and weighs 28 grams. The obverse has the name and dates of the tournament neatly etched around the perimeter and the swinging golfer PGA logo and "PGA Tournament Winner" at center. The reverse has "Winner" and "Mark Brooks" inscribed along with his scores from each round and overall tally of 270. There is a loop on top for chain display. It remains in very fine overall condition with little handling.
To our knowledge this is the only medal to come up for auction from the Milwaukee Open a long-running PGA staple from 1968–2009. Past winners include golf greats Dave Stockton Art Wall Jim Thorpe Greg Norman Mark O’Meara and Corey Pavin.
Includes LOA from Mark Brooks.
