The late great Gary Carter was a terrific catcher who was named an All-Star 11 times and who won a World Series championship with the New York Mets as their starting backstop in 1986. The three-time Gold Glove Award winner and two-time All-Star Game MVP was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2003 nine years prior to his untimely death from brain cancer in 2012. This lot features a 1991 Gary Carter autographed and game-used Louisville Slugger professional model bat. This was from Carters second-to-last season his lone campaign playing for the Los Angeles Dodgers. The bat shows heavy use with pine tar covering nearly 14 inches of the bat handle and multiple bat rack cleat and ball marks throughout the barrel. The 34 bat has number 31 in black on the knob as it should be noted that this particular bat was also used by Roger McDowell who wore uniform No. 31 for the Dodgers the following season. Carter signed the barrel of the bat in blue marker right next to his engraved name.
