In an 18-year Hall of Fame career Karl Malone was a two-time NBA Most Valuable Player a 14-time NBA All-Star and an 11-time member of the All-NBA first team. He scored the second most career points in NBA history (36928) and is considered one of the greatest power forwards in NBA history. This lot features a superb pair of Malone's colorful and even exotic APEX shoes showing game use and yet in superlative condition. The white leather shoes have the intricate APEX in gold-stitched single letters vertically down the tongue on a sewn purple strip with gold leather fixture at the toe and purple and teal knitted eyelets for the laces. There are purple and gold leather swirls down the sides of each shoe; an inlaid rubber "32 MVP" circular piece is featured at the back of each heel directly beneath a leather heel flap with clear plastic triangle embedded. "Mailman 32" is elegantly embroidered in gold stitching on the outside above the heel. Malone has added a black Sharpie autograph to the white leather area at the outside of the heel adding his uniform No. 32 inscription; a second inscription appearing to be "To Mike" is above. As noted the shoes are in fine condition jostled only by some chipping of the purple highlights on the embossed APEX on the outside of the heels and just a wee bit of surface loss to the very top of the purple strip on the tongue of the right shoe. Includes a 5-by-2-inch plastic nameplate with gold finish engraved "Karl Malone Utah Jazz."
Includes a Letter of Provenance from The Newport Sports Museum.
