Besides being Detroit’s second consecutive World Championship, 1990 marked the first time since 1979 that neither the Lakers nor the Celtics made it to the NBA Finals. The Pistons appeared unstoppable as Isiah Thomas, Joe Dumars, Dennis Rodman, Bill Laimbeer and the rest of the “Bad Boys” led Detroit to a 4-games-to-1 series win over the Portland Trailblazers. Neither title would have happened were it not for the huge contributions of forward Mark Aguirre. Acquired from Dallas midway through the 1988-89 season, the one-time scoring machine averaged over 14 points per game in both championship seasons. Following the ’89-90 campaign, Aguirre received a pair of rings: one fit for himself and this one fit for his wife, Angela.
The 1990 Detroit Pistons Back-to-Back World Champions ring is identical to her husband’s player version except for coming in a tiny size 5. Crafted by Balfour in 14-karat gold, the face features a round-cut diamond mounted on a red stone surrounded by 20 smaller diamonds with “89 - DETROIT PISTONS - WORLD CHAMPIONS - 90” in raised relief around the perimeter. The left shank has two basketballs with “BACK TO BACK” and the Pistons logo above the team’s regular season record of 59-23. The right shank features “AGUIRRE” above the NBA logo flanked by the Finals tally of “DET 4 – POR 1.” The interior band has the “LGB 14K” hallmark. Shows hardly any visible wear and presents exquisitely.
