Offered here is a lovely 1988 Seoul Summer Olympics torch used in the 22-day relay that took the Olympic flame from the Greek capital of Athens toKorea’s southernmost point Jeju Island before making its way north toSeoul for a total of 4167 km. Made ofmetal copper leather and plastic it measures 20″ in length and 4″ atits widest point and is designed by Lee Woo-Sung and manufactured by KoreaExplosives Co. Ltd. The handle is wrapped in brown leather with a ringabove and inscribed “Games of the XXIVth Olympiad Seoul 1988” in Englishand Korean. The upper portion of the torch bears a colorful Olympic ringemblem and the top is engraved with an intricate dragon designsymbolizing the harmony between East and West. Based on the Chinesezodiac the year 1988 was also the year of the dragon. The internal flame section shows some light to moderate burn marks. Overall this stunning example presents in NM-MT condition.
