In 1987 Oakland A’s rookie Mark McGwire clubbed a league-leading 49 homers. To no one’s surprise “Big Mac” was named the ’87 A.L. Rookie of the Year. McGwire followed up with an All-Star sophomore campaign in 1988 that saw him tally 32 homers and 99 RBI in leading the A’s to the American League Championship. This lot features a Rawlings Mark McGwire professional model game-used bat from that memorable ’88 season. The 34.5” bat model #256B shows considerable game use with ball contact marks ink transfers and ball stitch marks present on the barrel. A healthy coat of pine tar is present on the handle and a slight crack is visible. "256B." and "017 8" are stamped onto the knob. "33" is written in blue ink and "25" appears in black marker also on the knob. McGwire has signed the barrel in bold black sharpie. This is an ideal early career war club from the man who finished his big league career with 583 home runs.

Includes a LOA from John Taube of PSA/DNA (Grade GU9.5). Pre-certified by PSA/DNA (auto.).
