After nine years in Detroit and an '84 World Series ring to boot, free agent signing Kirk Gibson showed up to the City of Angels in 1988 a bit injury riddled, but full of magic in his bat. It didn't take him long to adjust to National League pitching as the left-handed outfielder belted 25 homers, knocked in 76 runs and batted .290 to win NL MVP honors. Better yet, his postseason heroics became the stuff of legends. In the NLCS against the Mets, Gibby made an incredible catch to rob Mookie Wilson of a double in Game 3, and then hit two key homers in subsequent games to lead Tommy's boys to the World Series.

Of course, we all know how Game 1 of the '88 Fall Classic ended. Hobbling on two bad knees, Gibson pinch-hit against Oakland's invincible closer Dennis Eckersley, waved his magic wand, and was somehow able to barrel a game-winning, two-run shot deep into the right-field bleachers. Pandemonium ensued at Dodgers Stadium. It Gibby's, Lasorda's and Vin Scully's finest moment, and one certainly entrenched in baseball fans' memories forever.

Featured here is a Kirk Gibson's 1988 Los Angeles Dodgers game worn home jersey from that fateful season. The white knit button-down shirt comes all-original with the "Dodgers" logo in blue script across the chest and his surname arched on the upper back in blue block letters. The front No. "23" is in red and the back number is in blue. All numbers and letters are sewn on in tackle twill. Appropriately tagged by Rawlings (Size 46, 1" extra length) behind the collar, the important "Set 1 1988" flag tag is present alongside. Overall, this historically signficant '88 gamer exhibits a solid amount of wear throughout and presents wonderfully for collectors. Hard to fathom a season in baseball history in which one player meant more to his team than Gibby. Includes LOA from MEARS with a perfect A10 grade.
