Brian Downing one of the key members of the California Angels through the 1980's and a 20-year MLB veteran wore this gray knit pullover garment during the 1988 season. It was one of Downing's better power years with 25 home runs and 64 RBI; he finished his career with a lifetime .267 average 275 homers and 1073 RBI ranking him among the all-time club leaders in those departments. With "Angels" arched across the chest in red-on-blue double tackle twill (complete with a gold-colored halo encircling the tip of the upper-case "A") the jersey features "5" sewn to the back and left front in like fashion. A 4-inch diameter team logo patch adorns the left sleeve and blue-and-red striped stretch-ribbed cotton lines the V-neck and sleeve endings. Situated on the left front inside tail is a Rawlings manufacturer's label denotes Size 44 with a "Set 1 1988" flag tag attached. The standout shirt shows game use and is problem free.
Includes a Letter of Provenance from The Newport Sports Museum.
