After losing to the New York Giants in Super Bowl XXI, the Denver Broncos were given another shot in Super Bowl XXII. Facing the Washington Redskins, Denver again came up short, losing the Big Game 42-10. Each member of the AFC Champion Broncos was awarded a 10K gold ring to commemorate the season. This example belonged to rookie nose tackle Tony Colorito. He played in 15 games for Denver that season, but his career ended prematurely when he was injured in an exhibition game the next year.
Colorito’s 10k gold player’s ring weighs 42 grams and has “DENVER BRONCOS 1987 AFC CHAMPIONS” in raised letters around the top panel with 16 round-cut diamonds surrounding a dimensional Denver Broncos logo. The left shank features “Colorito” above the Super Bowl XXII logo and “NFL”. The right shank reads “BRONCOS VS BROWNS 38-33” above a dimensional image of the Lamar Hunt Trophy. The inside of the ring is stamped “©JOSTENS.” The piece shows the light scuffs and surface dings expected on a ring proudly worn the player who earned it. The ring is accompanied by its impressive wooden presentation box complete with a personalized plate that reads, “Denver Broncos 1987 AFC Champions Tony Colorito.
