This lovely Prince of Wales Trophy was awarded to Assistant General Manager Tom Johnson of the 1987-88 Boston Bruins. The Bruins received the award for winning the Eastern Conference and advancing to the Stanley Cup Finals. They would fall to the Oilers in Wayne Gretzky's final season in Edmonton.

 

As a star defenseman for the Montreal Canadiens, Johnson won the Norris Trophy in 1959 and helped lead the team to six Stanley Cups titles including a historic run of five straight (1956-1960). He finished his playing career in Boston, and it was with the Bruins that he earned his 7th cup as assistant GM in 1970 and his 8th as head coach in 1972. Johnson was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1970 and was involved in the Bruins organization for over 30 years. He passed away in 2007.

 

The ornate trophy stands 11" tall with a diameter of 4" at the cup opening. It sits atop a wooden base with a silver nameplate reading "H.R.H. | Prince of Wales Trophy | Tom Johnson." The top piece is missing. Condition EX/MT.
