Hall of Famer Tom Seaver certainly earned his popular nickname Tom Terrific while pitching for the New York Mets and leading them to a World Series championship in 1969 but he closed out his big league career with the Boston Red Sox in 1986. In his final campaign the 311-game winner posted a 5-7 mark in Beantown with 72 strikeouts to his credit. His 311th and last win came on August 18 1986 against the Minnesota Twins. At the time of his retirement Seaver was third on the all-time strikeout list (3640) trailing only Nolan Ryan and Steve Carlton.

This lot features Seavers 1986 autographed and game-worn Boston Red Sox home jersey from his final season. The white jersey boasts RED SOX across the front in red tackle twill lettering outlined in navy blue. The proper Wilson [size 44] manufacturers tag complete with washing instructions resides on the left front tail next to a sewn-on 86 year tag in black numbers. A red pin line runs the length of the front of the jersey and around the collar. Seavers iconic uniform number 41 appear in red 7.5 tall tackle twill numbers outlined in navy blue. He signed the front of the jersey in blue marker and added the inscription 1986!

PROVENANCE: Baltimore Orioles Clubhouse Collection - This is one of a collection of 12 jerseys in this auction that originate directly from the collection of a gentleman who served as the Baltimore Orioles visiting team clubhouse attendant in his youth in the early 1980s. A dream job for any baseball loving kid his position enabled him to serve and befriend many of the great stars of the era that passed through Baltimores Memorial Stadium. He was also a well-liked gofer for many of his hometown heroes such as Eddie Murray Cal Ripken and Brooks Robinson. All of the game worn jerseys presented here were given to him personally by the players they represent and autographed for him personally. Prior to their offering here these jerseys have remained in his sole possession. Needless to say they are ideal specimens with regard to originality usage attributes and provenance.
