The Celtic began the 1985-86 season still haunted by their defeat the previous season at the hands of Magic Johnson and the L.A. Lakers. As it turned out two-time consecutive league MVP Larry Bird and his team would only be able to partially avenge the loss. His team did win the NBA title but the possibility of a Celtics/Lakers championship series rematch was negated by the Houston Rockets who upset the Lakers in the Western Conference Finals. Bird averaged nearly a triple-double throughout the 1985/86 championship series as the Celtics claimed a 6-game victory their 16th NBA championship in franchise history. The ultimate symbol of that historic season is offered here. The beautifully preserved ring stamped 14k LGB on the inside band features a Shamrock in green on the face providing the backdrop for a diamond encrusted rendering of the NBA Championship trophy. Around the perimeter in raised lettering is "BOSTON CELTICS - WORLD CHAMPIONS." The shanks of the size 9-1/2 ring display a green NBA logo the year "1986" and the word "TEAMWORK" on one side while the other side carries a "16 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS" design (with the Celtics leprechaun) the name ZANKEL and the word "PRIDE." It originates from the family of one of the Celtics team owners. The ring shows moderate wear. The 1985/86 championship would ultimately be Larry Bird's third and last though he would continue to play through back pain for another six NBA seasons. Size 9.5.
