Great group of game-used bats from four prominent St. Louis Cardinals in the late 1980's: Outfielders Vince Coleman and Willie McGee along with 3B Terry Pendleton and 2B Jose Oquendo. All come from the fabulous collection of Cardinals' long-time coach George Kissell. All four of these 1980's Cardinals were switch-hitters (along with Ozzie Smith and Tommy Herr) and no Cardinals instructor taught switch-hitting and bunting better.

1) Vince Coleman Louisville Slugger C271 signature model bat with mahogany finish. Length is 33" and weight is 32.5 oz. Hollowed out section on the end. Bat is pounded with ball contact and bat rack marks. Heavy grain separation almost splitting on the barrel. This may have been exacerbated by its storage.

2) Willie McGee signed Louisville Slugger C271 signature model bat with two-tone mahogany finish. Length is 34" and weight is 34 oz. Hollowed out section on the end. Bat is pounded with ball contact and bat rack marks. Some grain separation on barrel and remnants of pine tar on handle. His no. "23" marked on knob. 1" chip on barrel below McGee's signature and "Best of Luck" inscription in gold pen. Also includes a Willie McGee signed baseball personalized "to George [Kissell] one of the Best people and BaseBall Man I Know thank you."

3) Terry Pendleton Louisville Slugger R161 signature model oak bat. Length is 33" and weight is 32 oz. Shows solid use but well-preserved and no damage whatsoever. His no. "9" marked on each end.

4) Jose Oquendo Louisville Slugger I13 signature model oak bat. Length is 33" and weight is 30.5 oz. Pounded with ball contact bat rack and cleat-knocking marks. Some grain separation on barrel and a little pine tar residue on handle. His no. "11" marked on knob.

Includes Letter of Authenticity from Kissell's grandson. McGee autographs pre-certified by PSA/DNA.

The definition of a "baseball lifer" George Kissell spent 68 years in the St. Louis Cardinals organization. Starting in 1940 he played three seasons in the minor leagues before serving in World War II. He then worked as a manager instructor and scout in the Cards farm system from 1946 to 1968 and coached at the big league level 1969-75. After that Kissell coached at spring training and directed winter instructional camps. He mentored many players and future managers most notably Joe Torre and Tony LaRussa who said Kissell touched as many lives as anybody who's ever been in uniform in this game. In 2005 the Cardinals named their spring training clubhouse in Jupiter Fla. after him. George Kissell was still serving as the teams senior field coordinator for player development in 2008 when he died at the age of 88. Each item from his collection comes courtesy of his grandson.
