Cal Ripken Sr. was a coach with the Baltimore Orioles during the mid-to-late 80s. This is Ripken Sr.s game-worn coachs uniform from the 1985 season in which the Orioles finished fourth in the American League East with a record of 83-79. The No. 7 Rawlings jersey (size 40) shows minimal wear and includes the proper tags on the inside of the jersey to reflect the season from which it was worn (1985 Set 1). The size 34-waist pants shows tagging from the 84 season (1984 Set 1) but Ripken Sr. simply wore it for more than one season. Slight fraying is evident on the jersey and pants with one button missing on the rear right pocket but overall both items are in great condition.
Includes Letter of Authenticity from former Orioles Scouting Director Tom Giordano.
The items in this lot come from the personal collection of longtime MLB executive Tom Giordano. After a very brief playing stint at 2nd base for the Philadelphia Athletics in 1953 Giordano moved on to a coaching managing and scouting career in baseball that is now 66 years and counting (began in 1948 in minor leagues). He was Director of Scouting and Player Development for the Baltimore Orioles from 1976-1987 before moving on to similar baseball operations positions with the Cleveland Indians and Texas Rangers. In 2007 Giordano was named East Coast Scout of the Year.
