In 1984 the city of Los Angeles California hosted the Summer Olympic Games. Outstanding performances like U.S. gymnast Mary Lou Rettons gold-medal-winning outing in the individual all-around competition the first American female gymnast to do so to U.S. speedster Carl Lewis equaling the 1936 performance of American icon Jesse Owens by winning four gold medals in track and field. But it was also marred by unfortunate events including Mary Deckers infamous fall after bumping into South African Zola Budd who was representing Great Britain during the womens 3000 meter run.
This lot features a 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Summer Games 1st Place winners gold medal sample. It is presented beautifully archived inside a wooden stand seven inches wide by 7.5 high. It is positioned with the ribbon at the top sporting the 1984 Summer Games colors against a backdrop of black felt behind glass. It appears to be made to the exact dimensions as the medals that were awarded to competitors at the 84 Games. The front of the medal reads: SAMPLE XXIII OLYMPIAD LOS ANGELES 1984.
Includes Letter of Provenance from the Newport Sports Museum.
