A 12-time All Star and winner of five batting titles Wade Boggs wore this home button-front jersey during 1983 his second year with the Sox and also the year when he would win the first of five AL batting crowns in a six-year span. The young star batted .361 in winning his first title: indeed he would bat above .356 five times in his career and win a batting crown each time which seems eminently appropriate. The jersey exhibits extraordinarily strong wear from the youngster's second season at Fenway particularly apparent in the fraying of the red piping which runs the perimeter of the button path and collar. "Red Sox" is announced across the chest in the classic Old English font with number "26" similarly applied in two-tone tackle twill to verso. A well-worn "Wilson Size 42" label is affixed at the collar; an "83" swatch denoting that important second season appears on the front left tail. With heavy wear and ideal vintage this is a dream piece for the discriminating jersey collector.
