Who could ever forget "The Slam"? Who doesn't remember when NC State capped off its Cinderella season with one of the most exciting buzzer-beaters in hoops history? When Lorenzo Charles won it all for the underdog Wolfpack by alley-ooping Derek Whittenburg's 30-foot airball as the clock wound down to zero? When the great Jim Valvano raced around the court in a frenzy not knowing where to turn first? When Clyde Drexler Hakeem Olajuwon and the vanquished Phi Slama Jama stood shellshocked as Charles himself performed the time-honored tradition of cutting down the basketball net?

Presented here amazingly is Lorenzo Charles' very own championship ring from that pinnacle event in the annals of March Madness. The size-12 ring is crowned with a CZ set within a red stone and features the lettering of "NC STATE / NCAA BASKETBALL CHAMPIONS / 1983." Engraved inside the band are "JOSTENS 10K" and "Lorenzo Charles."

Sporting highly displayable EX/MT to NM condition the showpiece comes with a signed LOA from Charles; an original 2003 purchase LOA reading in part "I recently acquired this ring directly from Lorenzo Charles"; and a JSA Auction LOA certifying Charles' signature (on his LOA).

Lorenzo went on to play briefly for the Atlanta Hawks and then enjoyed an international career before taking a job with the Elite Coach bus company. Tragically he was killed in a bus crash in 2011 at the age of 47. Other teammates praised the fallen hero for his consummate humilitywhich shined through in one of Charles' postings from his personal NC State web page: "It's still kind of amazing to me that...people are still talking about ['The Slam']. I remember when [it] first happened I figured I would have my 15 minutes of fame and that would be it. Here we are and it is still a conversational piece...Maybe because it was a David and Goliath thing." Validating the significance NC State retired Lorenzo Charles' uniform #43 in 2008 on the 25th anniversary of the Wolfpack's NCAA championship.
