Baseball Hall of Famer Carlton Fisk played for two different teams wearing two different colored socks. From 1969 to 1980 Fisk played for the Boston Red Sox but moved to the Windy City at the start of the 1981 campaign and wound up playing 13 seasons for the White Sox. At the time of his retirement following the ’93 season he held the record for most home runs by a catcher (351) before being eventually surpassed by fellow Hall of Fame backstop Mike Piazza (427). The lot features Fisk's 1983 Chicago White Sox game worn road jersey. Already 13 seasons into his Hall of Fame career the then-35-year-old Fisk continued to provide plenty of offense by batting .289 with 26 home runs and 86 runs batted in. His efforts helped the ChiSox secure the American League West Division flag and earn their first postseason appearance in 24 years.
The white knit pullover jersey features a blue-on-red striped pattern surrounding the mid-torso that continues onto both sleeves with "SOX" sewn in white tackle twill on the front center portion. Blue-and-white striped stretch ribbed cotton comprises the V-neck garment and a 3-3/8"-diameter "ALL-STAR GAME 50th Anniversary" patch adorns the left sleeve. Fisk’s uniform number "72" (since retired by the team) is sewn to the back in blue twill numbers with "FISK" arched above in similar fashion. Located on the front left tail are dual side-by-side "Medalist/Sand Knit" manufacturer's tags that denote "Designed & Tailored Exclusively for the CHICAGO on WHITE SOX" on one and size "46" on the other A laundry instructions tag is sewn within the right seam and within the customized back tail side-by-side strip tags respectively denote "83 - 46T" and "FISK." Heavy wear is evident throughout. Fisk has signed the bottom front portion of the jersey in blue marker. The autograph rates a 7-8/10 in our book.
Includes LOA from MEARS (graded A10). COA from PSA/DNA for autograph.
