ADDENDUM: JERSEY IS FROM 1983-84 NOT CIRCA 1983 AS STATED IN CATALOG. ALSO YEARS OF GAME-USED FOOTBALLS HAVE BEEN UPDATED.

Featured here is a rare game-worn Los Angeles Express jersey along with two game-used footballs from the brief but significant existence of the United States Football League better known as the USFL. The jersey was worn by offensive lineman Wayne Jones in 1984 and/or 1985 based on the the missing LA logo on the shoulders as well as the red missing from the numbers. Jones played his college ball at Utah before joining the Express for three seasons. His quarterback was a young southpaw named Steve Young who received a $40 million contract out of Brigham Young which at the time obliterated the record for a professional football contract. Other eventual NFL stars who first played in the USFL were Jim Kelly Reggie White and three successive Heisman winners ('82 Herschel Walker '83 Mike Rozier and '84 Doug Flutie). Following the 1985 season the league folded for financial reasons.

The white road mesh jersey with blue red and gray striped elastic sleeves has Wayne Jones' number "65" in large navy with gray outline on the front and back as well as smaller versions on each shoulder. The "LA" logo in navy with silver outline is pressed into each sleeve. "JONES" in large navy lettering on a white nameplate adorns the back. The jersey appears to have been customized by Jones with a purposeful tear at the front collar from the neck. There is no tagging; perhaps it was removed by Jones. The jersey exhibits an incredible amount of wear with team repairs as well as blue and white paint transfers that cover the numbers front and back.

Also included is a pair of official USFL game-used footballs. The one stamped with Commissioner Chet Simmons is from either the 1983 or 1984 seasons. The other stamped with Commissioner Harry Usher is from the 1985 season. All items come as-issued and problem-free rare memories from an extinct era of football that helped shape and strengthen the NFL we love today.

Includes a Letter of Provenance from the Helms Athletic Foundation/LA84 Collection.
