In 1981 the San Francisco 49ers posted a 13-3 regular-season record on their way to the franchise’s first ever Super Bowl appearance. At the big dance held at the Pontiac Silverdome in Detroit the Joe Montana-led Niners held off a late surge by the Cincinnati Bengals to emerge victorious 26-21. This lot features a 1981 San Francisco 49ers Super Bowl XVI Champions 10K gold ring issued to longtimeteam scout Neil Schmidt who worked diligently for the team for 28years. He passed away in 2006.
The beautifully designed size 11 ring boasts a single large diamond surrounded by 16 other smaller diamonds in the shape of a football on the top which is surrounding by raised lettering that reads: “SAN FRANCISCO 1981 WORLD CHAMPIONS.” One shank simply reads “SCHMIDT” and “49ERS” around a 49ers helmet design while the other shank shows a large football in front of the Golden Gate Bridge positioned above the words “SUPER BOWL XVI” and the score “26-21.” The inside band is engraved “BALFOUR 10K.” The ring presents inoutstandingcondition.
