The Hula Bowl was an independently administered post-season invitational college football game held each year in Hawaii from 1947 to 2008. The game was last played at Aloha Stadium in the Halawa district of Honolulu Hawaii. At one point the longest-running sporting event in Hawaii it had been considered a premier venue to launch professional careers in the National Football League.
Paul McDonald was USC's star quarterback of the late 1970's who led the Trojans to a share of the 1978 National Championship and was named All-America in 1979. McDonald was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 1980 and was used as both the back-up and starter during his six seasons (1980-85) with the team. In 1984 the left-handed passer started all 16 games under center. This McDonald’s Hula Bowl jersey from 1980. The jersey has a patriotic red white and blue design with the original Hula Bowl patch on the sleeve and shows very light wear not atypical of a quarterback in this type of All-Star exhibition. McDonald has signed the back number in silver sharpie.
