“Pistol Pete” Maravich was an NBA Hall of Famer who turned heads in every arena by virtue of his fancy dribbling and acrobatic shots. He was an All-American who still remains the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer with 3667 points (44.2 points per game average). Maravich who died in 1988 went on to the NBA and once again established himself as a top-notch scorer and playmaker. Initially playing for the Atlanta Hawks (1970 to ‘74) before moving onto play for the New Orleans/Utah Jazz (1974 to ’80) Maravich was a five-time NBA All-Star (1973-74 1977-79) who led the league in scoring in 1977 when heaveraged 31.1 points per game.
Consistently plagued by knee injuries during the latter part of his career Maravich was placed on waivers by the Jazz in January 1980 after appearing in only 17 games. The Boston Celtics led by rookie sensation Larry Bird picked him up and utilized his skills as a part-time contributor who wound up helping Boston to a league best 61-21 record. In what turned out to be his last season Maravich played in 26 games for the Celtics where he averaged 17 minutes and 11.5 points per game.
This lot features Maravich’s game worn Boston Celtics road jersey from his final NBA season. The offered green road jersey (100% nylon) shows light to moderate wear and includes proper Sand-Knit manufacturer’s tagging on the front left tail.
