It's not every day you can get your hands on a pair shoes game-worn in the Super Bowl. And that's exactly what is presented here. Longtime NFL placekicker Chris Bahr wore these Adidas soccer-style turf shoes in Super Bowl XV on January 25 1981 at the Louisiana Superdome (turf field) in New Orleans. The Oakland Raiders beat the Philadelphia Eagles 27-10 as Bahr kicked two field goals and three extra points for the winning side. The shoes are style-matched in the included Getty image (51791012).
Born into a soccer-obsessed family Chris Bahr was All-America in soccer and football at Penn State. His dad is a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame and both brothers played professional soccer (Matt Bahr was also a standout kicker in the NFL). Chris was the NASL (North American Soccer League) Rookie of the Year in 1975 before moving on to the NFL where he kicked for three teams over a 14-year career.
The Adidas (approx. size 8) turf shoes show a ton of game use with dirt/mud marks (dual-purpose stadiums had dirt from baseball infields) all over the outside and soles. Bahr wore these babies for seven seasons on predominantly turf fields (not just Super Bowl XV) so it's no wonder. The insoles are discolored from years of foot perspiration. The laces are likely not the originals but the ones present are perfectly intact. The blue markings on the left 3-stripe logo could be Bahr's signature but it's too faded to know for sure.
