Thirty-two years post retirement former Boston Red Sox slugger Carl Yastrzemski still shares the MLB record for consecutive seasons played with the same team at 23 with longtime Baltimore Orioles third sacker Brooks Robinson. Yaz started in left field at Fenway Park in 1961 replacing the legendary Ted Williams. Later in his career he moved to first base and through all those seasons in Beantown accumulated some incredible lifetime numbers: 3419 hits including 452 home runs 646 doubles 59 triples and 1844 runs batted in. A two-time World Series competitor (1967 and 75) Yastrzemski is also the second to last major leaguer to hit for the Triple Crown which he accomplished in 67 by leading the American League in batting average (.326) home runs (44) and runs batted in (121). Six years post retirement Yaz was a first-ballot Hall of Famer in 1989 going in alongside Cincinnatis Johnny Bench. This lot includes a game-used and autographed Louisville Slugger Professional Model bat that Yaz used during the latter part of his career (1980 to 83). The 34-inch chocolate brown-colored bat (model #C271) shows ample game use with ball contact and bat rack marks throughout. Yaz has signed the bat in fine-point silver Sharpie just above his engraved signature on the bats barrel. The autograph shows slight smudges but still rates a 6-7/10 in our book.
