Electrifying scorer David Thompson entered the NBA with one of the most decorated collegiate resumes ever assembled sweeping every College Player of the Year award in 1974 and leading the N.C. State Wolfpack to the National Title. He was the number one overall pick in the 1975 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks but opted to sign with the Denver Nuggets who were then still part of the ABA (merged after '76). Thompson remains one of five players in NBA history to score over 70 points in a game and he earned five All-Star selections in a nine-year career cut short due to injuries and substance abuse the latter of which he has since gotten under control. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1996. Michael Jordan idolized him growing up and chose Thompson to introduce him at his own Hall of Fame induction. They are considered two of the greatest players in the history of the Atlantic Coast Conference.

This lot features Thompson's game-used and autographed 1980-81 Denver Nuggets home uniform. Showing on the left front tail of the white mesh jersey with blue trim is the old "POWERS" manufacturer's tag with "2"LB." On the left inseam is a blank tag. Across the front of the jersey reads "Nuggets" in royal blue tackle twill outlined in yellow as is Thompson's uniform number "33" in similar fashion just below the team name. Across the back of the jersey is his last name - "THOMPSON" - in blue tackle twill sewn directly onto a white mesh nameplate that's been sewn onto the jersey. His uniform number "33" is repeated on the reverse albeit in much larger royal blue tackle twill numerals outlined in yellow. An unusual addition to this jersey is the black and green armband strips sewn on the right shoulder stirrup in memory of the "Atlanta Child Murders" that took place from 1979 to '81. Thompson has added his signature on the front of the jersey in blue fine-point marker and the signature still rates a solid 7-8/10 in our book.

Thompson's accompanying Denver Nuggets white with blue trim shorts sport a "GARMENT AMERICA" tag on the inner rear waistband next to another indecipherable tag. On either side of each leg can be found the old school Denver "miner" logo that's embroidered in red blue and white on yellow tackle twill. A remarkable piece of sports memorabilia commemorating a terrific season for Thompson one in which he averaged a sensational 25.5 points per outing.
