It's difficult to imagine a finer game-worn uniform than this from the Hall of Fame third baseman that socked 548 home runs and knocked in 1595 in an 18-year career spent entirely in Philadelphia. With three National League MVP Awards eight home run crowns 10 Gold Gloves and 12 All-Star nods it's easy to see why Schmidt's status is unmatched in the storied history of the Phillies franchise. This white pinstriped jersey and pants dates to Schmidts seventh full season in the City of Brotherly Love one in which he posted monstrous power numbers to the tune of 45 homers and 114 RBI. Both items show ample game use and grand display quality including the distinctive Phillies "P" on the front left breast of the zip-front jersey. All other original burgundy twill letters and numerals including Schmidts now retired number 20 on front and back are flawless. A Wilson size 44 tag is sewn on the left front tail above a sewn-on swatch with chain stitching reading "79 1." Schmidt's name appears on a similarly chain stitched tag in the collar. The matching Wilson pants show similar tagging in the waistband. The uniform possesses the ideal combination of definitive usage and wash wear without suffering a single structural fault that compromises its superb presentation. Its quality and originality have been verified by MEARS who have assigned it a perfect rating of A10. Two apparent photomatches are provided in the form of an October 1979 copy of Baseball Digest and a c.1979 7up advertising collectors card that both picture Schmidt wearing what appears to be this uniform.
