ADDENDUM: THIS ART SKETCH IS A PRINTED VERSION NOT THE ORIGINAL. NEIMAN'S AUTOGRAPH IS PRINTED; ALL OTHERS ARE REAL SIGNATURES.

In 1979 famed sports artist LeRoy Neiman painted a generic football-themed art sketch depicting a placekicker launching what appears to be successful field goal for three points. The mostly black-and-white artwork included some water colors as he provided a sky blue shade to add atmosphere and maroon-colored jerseys on the defenders. Featured here is a printed version of the original sketch; the exact print run is unknown. (Neiman lithograph or serigraph pieces are typically hand-numbered on the bottom left or right-hand corner.) What makes this lot so special is that more than 200 pro football standouts many of whom are enshrined in Canton Ohio and go back the earliest days on the gridiron have added their individual signatures to the piece. The dimensions of the print are 27" wide by 23" high and comes with a nice matte framed inside a glass presentation measuring 36" wide by 32" high.

Notable signatures in varying pen colors abound and include such defensive standouts as Hall of Famers Chuck Bednarski Ray Nitschke Dick Night Train Lane Lem Barney Art Donovan Dave Robinson Bob Lilly Jack Ham and Sam Huff. By the same token the offensive side of the ball is well represented with autographs from fellow Hall of Famers including Steve Van Buren Bill Dudley Bobby Mitchell Don Maynard Norm Van Brocklin Jim Taylor Ollie Matson and Mike Ditka. Dudley Nitschke and Van Brocklin have each signed it twice (others less notable may have too)! Other notables include Heisman Trophy winners Johnny Lujack (1947) and Johnny Lattner (1953) from Notre Dame 1951 Heisman runner-up Kyle Rote from SMU longtime NFL coach and Hall of Famer Weeb Ewbank running back Chuck Mercein linebacker Andy Russell quarterback Earl Morrall and split-end Ron Kramer to name a few. The autographs range 5-9/10 with an overall average of 7. LeRoy Neiman's name and the year he sketched this piece ('79) were printed from the original.
