In 1974, the NBA granted a new franchise to the city of New Orleans. One of the first thing the fledgling team did was to trade for Louisiana State University legend, Pistol Pete Maravich. Maravich was and still is the all-time leading NCAA Division I scorer, and NOLA fans welcomed Pete back to Louisiana with open arms. In 1976-77 hed have his best NBA season, leading the league in scoring and recording a 68-point game against the Knicks to set the record (since broken) for the most points scored by a guard in a single game. The photographer has captured Pistol Pete in this tremendous disco-era portrait. The 1970s sunglasses reflect a basketball arena with its bright lights and stands full of New Orleans Jazz fans. Maravich casually gazes at the viewer with all the confidence of a superstar who returned to the place where it all started. The Type 1 photo shows some wear along its borders and there is some light toning from age. The back has a New Orleans Times-Picayune stamp along with a Photo by Bryan Berteaux stamp. Various handwritten notations and production marks are also present with a Jan 29, 1978 date stamp. The photo has been encapsulated and graded Type 1 Authentic by PSA.
