Plagued by injuries the 1977-78 Washington Bullets finished the regular season with a record of just 44-38 which was good enough for second place in the Eastern Conference’s Central Division and a spot in the playoffs. However when the postseason ended nearly two months later on June 7th the Bullets had beaten the Seattle SuperSonics in Seattle 105-99 to win the franchise’s only championship. That was 36 years ago and it just so happens to be the last time an NBA team won a Finals Game 7 on the road. Presented here is the 1977-78 Washington Bullets NBA 14k gold Championship Ring that was presented to point guard Larry Wright.

After a sterling college career at Grambling University Wright was selected with the 14th pick overall in the 1976 NBA draft by the Washington Bullets. As a substitute he was a significant contributor to the Bullets' success of the late 1970s. He not only helped the Bullets win an NBA title in 1978 he helped them reach the Finals again the next year. The beautifully crafted 14K gold ring boasts a diamond on top surrounded by "N. B. A. World Champions". "Wright" "bullets" and "THE FAT LADY SINGS" appear on one side. The NBA logo and "1978" appear on the other. Inside band is stamped "Balfour 14K" and engraved "MS. L.G.W". The size 8 ring (38 grams) exhibits significant wear. It was evidently re-sized at some point and given by Larry Wright to his wife.
