On June 9, 1978, Larry Homes beat Ken Norton by split-decision in a tightly contested boxing match to win the WBC Heavyweight title. Holmes would go on to defend his title 22 times before losing in 1985 to Michael Spinks. After that first title fight against Norton, Holmes had a handful of examples for this ring produced. One ring was made for Holmes, and a few for members of his close entourage. This 14K gold ring is in the shape of a king's crown, complete with the assorted gem hardware. On top are five 20-point diamonds circled with the title "WORLD CHAMPION JUNE 9 1978". The crown is separated in seven sections with 28 smaller vertical diamonds (four separating each section), with a 20-point ruby centered in each section. The lower portion has 20 more diamonds encircling the entire length of the crown. The one side has the initials "LH" flowing boldly in script, while the other side has the "WBC" logo. This 14K gold ring is a size 10.5, weighs 32 grams and has "14K" stamped inside the band. This is one of the more unique rings we have seen, and are proud to offer this "limited edition" heirloom made by Larry Holmes for his close associates, made by a fighter considered by many to be the greatest heavyweight champion of all time.
