Former Yankees third baseman Graig Nettles was the model of consistency during his 22-year MLB career. The six-time All-Star spent the largest chunk wearing pinstripes and hit his prime in the late 1970's during the drama-filled "Bronx Zoo" era. After blasting a career-high 37 homers with 107 RBI in 1977 to help the Yanks win their first World Series in 15 years, Nettles had another All-Star campaign in '78 as New York was able to repeat as champions. The left-handed hitter batted .276 with 27 homers and 93 ribbies. In addition, he won his second straight Gold Glove Award at the hot corner.
Presented here is Nettles' game worn home uniform from the 1978 season. This home pintriped jersey has a “Nettles” stitched tag inside the collar with his autograph in 7/10 blue marker just below. Wilson manufacturer's tagging on the left front tail indicates size 42 and “78 2” indicating the year and set number. The NY logo on the front chest and nis No. 9 on the reverse have each faded a bit from their original navy blue. The knit material shows a moderate amount of use with some apparent sweating and soiling in the sleeves. The matching pants show wear consistent with the shirt and are properly tagged by Wilson as well. Nettle’s autograph has been pre-certified by PSA/DNA. Includes LOA from MEARS (A-)
