Hall of Famer Eddie Murray was nicknamed Steady Eddie because of his consistent power at the plate day after day night after night. With 504 home runs to his credit Murray was a constant threat every time he stepped up to the plate. But before he became Hall-of-Fame caliber he was a wide-eyed rookie simply looking to earn his keep. The year was 1977 when Murray made his debut and played his first full season in the bigs making an immediate impact by earning American League Rookie of the Year honors for his efforts (173 hits 27 HR and 88 RBI). The next season he collected 174 hits hit 27 more home runs and drove in 95 runs. This lot features Murrays 1978 Baltimore Orioles game-worn alternate jersey the season he started earning his nickname. The bright orange Wilson V-neck polyester pullover jersey (size 44) has "Orioles" in black-on-white cursive style lettering across the chest just above his uniform number "33. Spanning the back of the shoulders area is "MURRAY" in black sewn on to an orange nameplate which is positioned above his uniform number "33" which is again in black-on-white numbering. Tagged in the collar is "Wilson [size] 44" and on the left front tail is an orange polyester plate with "33 78" chain-stitched in black indicating his uniform number and the season in which it was worn. Great use is evident with some separation showing at the bottom of the sewn on black-and-white V-neck collar.
