Former World Heavyweight Champion Larry Holmes had a long and illustrious career in the ring. About 18 months prior to winning the WBC Heavyweight title from Ken Norton Holmes had participated in an eight-round bout against Tom Prater on Jan. 16 1977 aboard the USS Lexington in Pensacola Florida. While the 17-3-1 Prater went the distance the 6 3 Holmes won by unanimous decision. This lot includes Holmes fight-worn Everlast trunks from that particular bout. The satin two-tone (red and white) trunks show lots of wear and include a special embroidered white patch on the right front thigh that includes a soon-to-be-realized moniker: Larry Holmes World Champ in red lettering with a pair of red Everlast boxing gloves in the middle. The victory that day over Prater brought Holmes career pro mark to an unblemished 23-0.
